Product Overview

Cetearyl alcohol and cetearyl glucoside form a non-ionic oil-in-water emulsifier blend supplied as waxy pellets. The glucoside fraction is the surface-active part; the cetearyl alcohol co-crystallises with it to build lamellar gel networks in the finished emulsion. That structure is what gives creams their body, their resistance to phase separation and their characteristic cushiony after-feel. This grade is the richer, more cream-oriented member of the family.

Key Features

  • Non-ionic O/W emulsifier – no ionic interaction with typical actives
  • Builds lamellar liquid-crystal structures for stable, cream-like textures
  • Tolerant of moderate electrolyte load and a wide pH range
  • Waxy pellet form – easy to weigh, melts into the oil phase
  • Suitable for hot or warm processing; also used in some cold-process systems
  • Plant-derived fatty alcohol and glucoside chemistry

How It Works

  • Interfacial film – the glucoside adsorbs at the oil-water interface while the fatty alcohol packs alongside it, forming a rigid, structured film rather than a mobile monolayer.
  • Lamellar network – on cooling, the blend forms gel phases in the continuous water phase, raising viscosity and improving long-term stability without a separate thickener.
  • Sensory consequence – higher fatty-alcohol content gives a richer, slower-breaking cream; lower content gives lighter lotions. Use level therefore controls texture, not only stability.
  • Processing window – melt into the oil phase above the blend’s melting point and cool under controlled shear; rapid cooling can lock in an unstable structure.

Typical Applications

  • Rich face and neck creams
  • Body butters and body creams
  • Sun-care emulsions
  • Hair masks and intensive conditioners
  • Pharmaceutical-style topical bases
  • Baby creams and barrier products
